We had a full agenda for July’s CLN with 3 guest speakers.

Nutrition Guidance from the The Association of UK Dieticians

The Association of UK Dieticians (BDA) has recently published the first menu planning and food service guidelines for care homes for older adults. The BDA has for some time produced the Nutrition and Hydration Digest, a resource for all involved in the provision of food and drink services in hospitals which is part of the National Standards for Healthcare Food and Drink. Until now, no similar national food service standards have existed to support care homes for older adults to meet the nutritional needs of their residents. The full document can be found here: BDA Nutrition Guidance Document

Every Story Matters
The Berkshire Care Association is joining with the Care Association Alliance to encourage everyone in the care sector to share their pandemic stories, via the UK Covid-19 Inquiry’s Every Story Matters campaign.
Anyone can share their story at the following link:
The Covid-19 pandemic had an unprecedented impact on those working in and drawing on adult social care services. Every story does matter. Sharing our experiences – be that from staff or recipients of care – will help shape the understanding of what happened, and help to bring about some positive change.
Sharing stories before the 19th of July will ensure they formally feed in to investigations ahead of the care sector module in early 2025.

There was some constructive discussion and we hope to invite SCAS back to a future meeting. Hannah gave the following:

  • There is no expectation for a staff member to accompany a patient to hospital. It is nice to have but not essential
  • SCAS appreciate DoLS and LPOA paperwork are not required and may not be readily available, particularly if it is out of office hours
  • Rudeness is unacceptable
  • Open communication is essential
  • Please ensure staff open the door, know where person is that ambulance has been called for and have information ready – particularly what is different about the patient / need for ambulance
  • They will endeavour to inform us if they are raising a safeguarding alert and why
  • Very accepting and respectful of our work and professional courtesy
  • Please feedback any further issues oneach occasion

We look forward to seeing some of you at our next Care Leaders Network meeting on Tuesday 10th September 2024 at 2.30pm – venue TBC
